Key Stage Three Course Outlines

Year 7:

During Year 7 in Spanish, we look at a variety of topics including the alphabet, spellings, numbers, days and months, personal description, family, greetings, school, free time and leisure. We also cover some aspects of geography and culture and how to use the present, past and future tenses.

Year 8:

Pupils in Year 8 learn to write paragraphs using present, past and future tenses, understand simple pieces of information and converse at a basic level in the Spanish language. The topics covered are myself and others, my home and family, shopping, food and eating out, tourism, the weather, free time and health. Pupils learn the main vocabulary for these topics which are within the GCSE specification. Pupils are tested on understanding by listening, reading, writing or speaking at the end of each topic.

Year 9:

In Year 9 pupils are given a thorough grounding in the verb tenses needed for GCSE. They also start working on the topics that form part of the AQA GCSE specification. These topics are My Family and Friends, Holidays and Festivals, My Home and My Region, Shopping and Role Plays Abroad, and Healthy Living. They are assessed in all four language skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) throughout the year to give them ample practice of the same style of questions that they will encounter in the GCSE papers.
